CARS 2 by Pixar (2011) LIBR 264 #16

GENRE: Movie
HONORS: None
REVIEW: Miles Axlerod has developed Allinol, a renewable energy source and hosts a World Grand Prix to test it out.  Lightening McQueen, fresh off his 4th Piston Cup win would rather relax but after the taunts of Francesco Bernoulli and the encouragement of Mater and his friends, he decides to enter.  Mater accompanies Lightening and the rest of the crew at Sally's request.  That is when things get sticky.  Mater unwittingly becomes involved in a spy investigation.  As the cars travel from Tokyo, to Italy, and finally London, Mater gets more involved.  Ultimately, Mater discovers the solution to the Allinol plot.  Along the way, Lightening McQueen and Mater come to value their friendship more and how important it is to be themselves.
OPINION: The movie was not as good as the original.  Many of the characters we had grown to love had minor roles that were forced.  Even Lightening McQueen was not the focal character, Mater was.  However, the animation, as always, was fabulous and boys especially will appreciate the action sequences and the cool new gadgets on the spy cars.
IDEAS: This movie could spark a discussion of sequels and whether or not students think they are as good as the original.  Because of the focus on Allinol, students could discuss alternative energy sources.
