GENRE: Nonfiction
HONORS: None
REVIEW:  Welcome to Kaya's World provides the reader with an in-depth look at life among the Nez Perce in the 1760s.  Interspersed among details of the life of the Nez Perce are some of the legends of the people such as "How Coyote Created Niimipuu".  The book discusses daily life, the importance of the horse, the buffalo hunt, and much more.  The book not only deals with the history of this strong people but also shows how the Nez Perce continue to live today.
OPINION:  Welcome to Kaya's World is a perfect companion book to the Kaya's series of books by American Girl.  The illustrations are a blend of illustrations from the book, new illustrations, and photographs.  The book discusses many of the facets of life for the Nez Perce, which provides excellent background knowledge.  The book is very detailed.
IDEAS: One idea is to refer children to this book who have read the American Girl series about Kaya as a source of additional information.  The book also works well for information about the Nez Perce during Native American studies.
