GENRE: Mystery / Science Fiction
HONORS: None
REVIEW: Otis Fitzmorgan is an art fraud expert who finds himself on board the new Space Elevator with a strange virus that is affecting only the adults. He also learns that a famous statue has been replaced with a fake. Using DNA technology, nanobots, computer implants, and good old-fashioned detective work Otis is available to solve the mystery and save the Earth at the same time. The story is written as a journal of Otis' experiences and covers the six-day trip on the Space Elevator from the moon back to the Earth.
OPINION: I enjoyed this book a lot. Even though it is a series, each book focuses on a different main character in a different time period so I did not really miss anything by reading the sixth book. Throughout the book are sidebars with scientific and historical information, which provide background knowledge or just interesting information. The science fiction aspect of this particular book was very interesting and brings out theories and ideas that may not be that far off.
IDEAS: It would be a good idea to get the series of books to tie in some of the recurring characters and see how they change throughout the series. Each book is set in a particular time period so it would be a good idea to research the time periods as the books are being read or they can be read to tie in with a social studies theme.
