Go Goddess (http://www.gogoddess.com/) LIBR 264 #38

GENRE: Website
HONORS: None
REVIEW: This website is another one designed for pre-teen and teen girls.  To get started girls take a quiz to determine which goddess she is most like.  The choices are Athena, Diana, Venus, Hera, Persephone, Kwan Yin, and Isis.  Each goddess has her own area with games and activities that anyone can play.  In order to design your goddess or access some parts of the website girls need to play games and earn goddess gold. Each goddess has a passport, which contains charms and symbols that can be bought, a journal, her profile, and groups of friends.  There are two ways to chat.  A girl can invite friends she knows to a group and chat there or she can go to a public, monitored chat.
OPINION: One nice thing about the website is that it is all free so there are no special memberships.  However, there are not as many games and activities as there are on other sites.  The website information says, "The go goddess! website was created to help girls like you explore your developing personalities, nurture your budding talents and interests, and interact and learn from each other in a fun, safe environment."  Unfortunately, there were some things on the website that I could not figure out how to do like how to do the weekly polls, answer the daily questions, or do weekly challenges.  It appears that the site is still fairly new and still being developed.
IDEAS: Sites like this are good for getting students used to controlling avatars so they can advance to sites like SecondLife at some point.
