WILEY & GRAMPA'S CREATURE FEATURES: MONSTER FISH FRENZY by Kirk Scroggs (Little, Brown and Company 2006) LIBR 264 #33

GENRE: Humor
HONORS: None
REVIEW: While eating dinner at the Crustacean Plantation, Grampa is talked in to sharing his story about Moby Fizz.  The evil fish had once swallowed Grampa and his stuffed animal, Captain Froggy and the only way he had escaped was shaking a bunch of carbonated, fizzy water causing Moby Fizz to burp him out.  Unfortunately, Captain Froggy got stuck in Moby Fizz's teeth and was lost.  Telling the story riles up the residents who live around Lake Putrid and they decide to catch Moby Fizz in "The Great Moby Fizz Fish-Off".  After a few days of sailing around the lake and adventures at Piranha Point, The Devil's Arm Pit, and the Island of the Lost Hippies, Wiley and his Grampa find themselves in a Robo-carp.  The Robo-carp is an invention of Dr. Hans Lotion who plans to destroy Lake Putrid, along with his grandson Jurgen, and build a new resort at Lake Pleasant.  Fortunately, Gramma with the help of the Gingham County female waterskiing team defeat Dr. Lotion, the Robo-carp, and the real Moby Fizz and even get long lost Captain Froggy back.
OPINION: This was a funny book.  I do not usually laugh out loud when reading a book but there were several times that I did while reading this book.  It is not a long book so it is perfect for reluctant readers.  Fans of Captain Underpants will enjoy these books.
IDEAS: This book had many allusions to Moby Dick so it would be interesting to have students find out more about that book so they will understand the humor behind the allusions.
