REVIEW: Four children find themselves on the unsinkable Titanic in April 1912. Paddy is an orphan on the run from a gang who he believes murdered his friend Daniel. He manages to stowaway on the ship with a picture that Daniel drew of the Titanic. What he does not know is that Daniel had figured out a way that the unsinkable ship could sink. Sophie is headed back to America after having been arrested along with her mother in England during a Women's Suffrage demonstration. Alfie's mom has left him and he lies about his age in order to get a job on the ship. While looking for an item for a passenger in the hold he finds a scrapbook with mementoes from the Whitechapel murders (Jack the Ripper). Is there a killer on board the Titanic? Juliana's father is a wealthy man who got tickets for himself and his daughter on the ship. All four children meet and start to form friendships even though they come from very different backgrounds. The book covers events from March 27, 1912 before the ship sailed to the afternoon of April 12, 1912 before the ship hits the iceberg.
OPINION: Fans of Gordon Korman will not be disappointed in this new trilogy. The only thing they may be disappointed about is waiting for the next two installments (August and September of 2011 - not too long to wait). This book is part historical fiction and part mystery and all entertainment.
IDEAS: This is an excellent fiction book to tie in with a study of the Titanic.
