GENRE: Website
HONORS: None
REVIEW: This website is designed for pre-teen and teen girls. Each person has an avatar she can customize. On the home page is a weekly magazine that features new things on the website. Once you click out of that, you can go to your apartment, which can be customized, check your closet and click on the map and go to a game area and many shops to buy clothes, accessories, and food. There are daily activities for more coins, a chat, and a cell phone, which has more games, and activities. VIP members have access to more items to purchase, can buy and play with pets, and can go on Quests. The chat is monitored for obscenities, bullying, and giving out personal information.
OPINION: According to my tween the website is "kind of fun" and "like Panfu". What she doesn't like it that you can't access everything without buying the membership, which is $6 for one month, $30 for 6 months, or the best value, $50 for a year. Basic members can play games, which are fun and some basic decorating. In the parent's guide the website describes itself as "a safe environment for young people "which empowers "them to express themselves, be creative and social, while learning management skills and practice their proficiency on the keyboard." Overall, it is a fun website to play on, especially on a rainy day.
IDEAS: Sites like these are good for getting students used to controlling avatars so they can advance to sites like SecondLife at some point.
