THE MYSTERY OF THE MISSING TIGER by Laura E. Williams (Schoastic, 2001) LIBR 264 #34

GENRE: Mystery
HONORS: None
REVIEW: The town of Mystic, Maine is all abuzz.  Not only do they have a new recreational field but also the circus has come to town.  Unfortunately, trouble has come as well.  During the opening show, Mr. Zambini falls during the trapeze act and it looks like it was sabotage.  Not only that but there is vandalism and then the star of the show, a new Siberian white tiger disappears.  Who is trying to ruin the greatest show in Maine?  Is it their teacher who disapproves of using animals in a circus?  Is it the ringmaster, Pierre, looking for insurance money to save the circus?  Is it Terra the tiger trainer? Is it strange Mr. Richards who is staying at the Mystic Lighthouse Bed and Breakfast?  Or is it Mr. Zambini who doesn't want to be replaced by the tiger?  You will have to read it to find out.
OPINION: This mystery was a very quick read and was a lot of fun.  The main characters Jen and Zeke are clever children and because there is a boy and a girl, it will appeal to both boys and girls.  I like how Laura Williams stops the book before the last chapter and encourages the reader to think through all the clues and look at Jen and Zeke's Suspect Sheets before reading the solution.
IDEAS: There are many other books in the series to read.  Each book has a Suspect Sheet at the back, which could be copied and used for kids to figure out the solution.
